Maid cafe: once in a lifetime, and then you get it

@home cafe is a chain of cafes with waitresses in costume, in Akihabara, Osaka and Nagoya. The main Akihabara branch takes up floors 3 to 7 of the Mitsuwa Building, at Sotokanda 1-11-4, near Super Potato. The chain has two more Akihabara branches: on floor 5 of Don Quijote, and on floor 5 of Akiba Cultures Zone.

The visit is built like a game: guests are 'masters and princesses' coming home, and the waitresses greet them and cast a spell on the food and drink. The signature dish is an omelet on rice with a ketchup drawing, ¥1,280. You can have a Polaroid taken with a waitress, ¥900, or play a game with her for a prize.

The chain writes that the waitresses learn English with English-speaking teachers. On some days there are short unplanned shows on the stage, and on rainy days the waitresses wear a rain outfit in pastel shades. Every Wednesday there is a separately paid show, Akiba Broadway, in the theater at Akiba Cultures Zone.

Good to know

  • The stay is limited to one hour. If there is no line you can ask the waitress to continue for another hour, and you pay the entry fee again. Without asking, nothing is added.
  • In photos, do not capture waitresses or other guests, and no video or recording. A picture with a waitress means the paid Polaroid.
  • Do not touch the waitresses, ask about personal details or come in drunk. A violation can get you removed.
  • The kitchen is not kosher, and you must order at least one drink. If you keep kosher, take this into account before you go in.
