Super Potato: a living museum of old video games
Super Potato is a chain of retro video game shops, owned by J-Field of Osaka, with six shops in Japan. The Akihabara branch takes up three floors of the Kitabayashi building: floors 3 and 4 sell consoles and games, and floor 5 is a retro arcade with a corner of old Japanese sweets and a seating area. The shop presents itself as the largest stock of retro games in Japan.
On the shelves: Famicom and Super Famicom, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Mega Drive, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, PC Engine, Neo Geo and Virtual Boy, and also handheld game devices from the eighties such as Game & Watch. There are also PlayStation 1 and 2, game guidebooks, character goods and sweets.
The arcade on floor 5 has old game machines, and a game costs from ¥100. It also has two-player games.
Good to know
- Japanese games do not always work on a console bought outside Japan. Famicom cartridges, for example, do not fit into a NES. Check compatibility before you buy.
- The arcade on floor 5 is open even to those who buy nothing, and according to the shop you can go up just to rest.
- Bring ¥100 coins for the arcade.
