Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge was completed in 1993: a suspension bridge 798 meters long over Tokyo Bay, between Shibaura on the mainland and Odaiba. On the upper level is an expressway, and on the lower one a regular road, the Yurikamome tracks and two footpaths.

The path is about 1.7 km, 20 to 30 minutes on foot. You choose a side at the start, in the Shibaura anchorage building, and go up by elevator: the north path faces the city and Tokyo Tower, and the south one faces the bay and Odaiba. You can switch sides only near the Odaiba end.

The walk is free. From April to October the path is open 09:00-21:00, and from November to March only 10:00-18:00, so there is no night walk in winter. Bicycles are not ridden: you push them on a cart provided on site.

Good to know

  • The path is closed on the third Monday of every month, or the next day if it is a holiday. The next closures: 16 November and 21 December 2026. It also closes in strong wind.
  • It is worth starting on the Shibaura side and finishing in Odaiba: there the beach, the food and the train back are waiting, while on the Shibaura side food is open only at weekday lunchtime.
  • A wheelchair is allowed only with a companion, because the slope is steep.
